Lightning? An alleged colossal source of energy!

Renewable energies except solar electric or thermal (seeforums dedicated below): wind turbines, energy from the sea, hydraulic and hydroelectricity, biomass, biogas, deep geothermal energy ...

Lightning? An alleged colossal source of energy!

by Grelinette » 15/09/09, 08:54

Lately I heard a specialist claim that one of the colossal possible and still untapped sources of energy was ... LIGHTNING!

Do you think this is an interesting and possible line of research, and if there has already been research done in this direction?

Hello,

Yes it is a good source of energy!
But very difficult to use! I remember seeing, forty years ago, attempts made at the Pic du Midi next to the observatory, and it all boiled down to a molten magma of different metals. Impossible to channel this enormous energy!
Yet it is the CNRS which officiated ....
I think that at the moment we should not go further!

Uh I have always read the reverse Obelix!

Instantaneous power source yes but no energy because much too low in duration ...

To be verified but I believe that the terrestrial resource is evaluated at less than 2 GW (in average power it already seems a lot) ... and it is distributed over the whole planet and is therefore unusable.

So this is the False Good Idea that we can think of ...
