Generally, the chemical energy available in the fuel is transformed into mechanical energy in the engine and transmitted mainly to the wheels to propel the vehicle and incidentally to auxiliaries which supply energy for other functions (air conditioning , lighting, multimedia equipment, etc.).
The amount of chemical energy consumed (or the volume of fuel) therefore depends on the energy required to move the vehicle and on the efficiency of the heat engine (ratio between the mechanical energy produced and the chemical energy consumed).

the WLTP cycle is just another hypocrisy, but only a little bit closer to reality than the NEDC, but none takes into account the maximum speed consumption given by the manufacturers because then the penalty would cost more than the new vehicle!

We do not care like the year 40 of consumption at maximum speed, given the limitations. If we go this way, the manufacturer also does not give a consumption figure with 5 people on board plus luggage and a double-axle caravan ...
