Already by the weight gain (the tracks are very heavy)
Then, the mechanism is frankly much simpler than tracks.
Then when we see that this little tractor is capable of pulling as many tonnes of wood, it's great.
Then, to work in the woods, there is less impact on the site, (always a story of weight)
Sometimes good inventions go unnoticed : Cheesy:

... sloping, with the wind in the back woué! And for braking, telescoping insured?
The invention is ingenious, but putting it into practice ...
In addition, the threads must have been very heavy, much more than the tracks, which may be made of synthetic materials.
Then for traction, we see a tractor engine! (For the Russian equivalent it is a military vehicle) What about the consumption and the power required?
So I would not be specially wrapped. Especially that in case of frost if the cylinders touch the snowpack when stopped you will be easily frozen on the icy ground ... The metal is very conductive (ditto for aluminum) What must happen often. Those who ski will understand what I mean: in action the friction causes heating and melts snow and ice in a film of water, but as soon as you stop with a negative temperature: it sticks !!!! : Mrgreen: and / or it makes you a beautiful hoof!

Good wind to take off without preheating said cylinders ....

Now that you talk about it maybe that is the problem: braking (which poses no problem with a track ...)

Otherwise the tractor engine should not exceed 20 to 30 hp at the time ...

Mouaarrf zon forgot to delete the traction cable during assembly : Mrgreen: : Mrgreen:

Good joke aside, it's impressive!

Yes!

LOL! The cable is for extreme cases, as the snow groomer the cylinders would leave imprints which are not desirable and the center of gravity is very low on the snow groomers which are practically unobstructable.

Another resurfacer, groomer with a very large area of tracks:

Yes except that the tracks have been developed and improved for decades ... not the snow cylinders ...

: Idea: any basic system only requires improvements.
: Arrow: change the metal screws with another material
But this device has yet another advantage, if it is well designed:
It will allow you to cross frozen lakes of which we do not know the exact thickness of the ice; if the ice breaks, we float!
With global warming, there are quite a few accidents in certain northern countries ...

quite LeJuste, it's something I thought about: if the screws are hollow and bulky, buoyancy is possible ... But apart from this very precise situation, my preference goes to the tracks.

Most of the caterpillars, especially Russian, abundantly used in the far north, are amphibious ... the only real risk are the crevices hidden by the snow ...
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e1D63aMZNSo
The screw system is "funny", but without much interest compared to flexible tracks (Kégresse) or metal, because use limited to snow, hence its abandonment ... while a track goes everywhere
...
Russians solve motor problems in their own way, as with this kit for Lada Niva (short chassis like the ones we see here) or long in 5 doors (there are also pick-ups)

Just Kolossal these all purpose tanks ... 8) : Mrgreen:

For the Lada, the center of gravity seems very high to me, for crossing obstacles ...: Cry: It balances so well that to catch seasickness, it must be tip top ... : Mrgreen:

Do you doubt that they are not? On the 1924 video, with a density of 1, I would say that there would be at least 2 tonnes of weight just for the screws ... : Shock:

Videos of the Russian military suggest that if the principle of the screws was more interesting than the tracks, they would use them ... right?

Funny converting 4x4 into "tank" : Cheesy:

The Russians are the leaders for off-road vehicles, they tried the screw but I can't find the videos anymore and they forgot this principle because too many disadvantages, the ricans too had tried and gave up!

Here is a site I have in my favorites on off-road vehicles:
