rainwater tank cheap and high capacity

by Christophe » 09/04/08, 14:26

I find the prices charged on some rainwater collection tank products shameful ... undoubtedly overcharged like many other "green" things.

400 style € the 700L tank in PVC (or equivalent) ... : Evil:

I believe that people do not realize what 400 € represents for water bills. So if the m3 is 2 €, you have to recover 200 000L to make this purchase profitable. That is to say fill and empty completely this tank 285 times ... roughly 10 20 years back for a tank whose life is surely lower ... Obviously it depends on your needs, region and surface of roof...

So stop doing we have (by bricos too green to be honest) and use of cubis 1000L like the one

Image

Certainly it is not very beautiful but it is well worth some tanks sold overpriced and in a garden shed it goes "almost" inconito :) Nothing prevents to put 2 or 3 ... in short N in series and to make a wooden "formwork" to measure.

Price: from 40 (used) to € 150 (nine) for 1000L even new so unbeatable price related to the volume :)

So we can get a capacity of 5000L for 200 € :) What could be better?

indeed this kind of polyethylene tank is very good, but prefer new because in the industry we put all kinds of chemicals, so unless you know what was in before ...

a little forgetfulness,

in summer, it is imperative to put a tarpaulin to protect from the sun on it to avoid the proliferation of algae.

There are also flexible tanks (when you have the place) with a seller on reasonable ebay finally almost (5m3 for 595 €) or really 30M3 instead of 1895 € otherwise also above ground pool of 10m for 499 €

Question: at the level of service life (holding in time, resistance to UV, T ° variation, frost) what do you think of the comparison between polyethylene and PVC (or other used by tank vendors)?

For the pool of 10m for 500 € it's not worth thinking about it for this reason precisely ... cheat me?

I have 4, but beware, it's consomable, not made to last, so protect them with black tarpaulin for UV otherwise :!:

PVC tanks?
I humbly admit that I do not know about PVC tanks, most of them are made of PP (Polypropylene) very close to pulsating PE levels.

The last I bought in a gardening shop, only cost 30 € for 500L (new of course : Cheesy: ).

I join Chatam in terms of risk on used containers.

+ 1 with Denis (beat I have 5 : Mrgreen: ), if possible, better than the black tarpaulin put them in a local like that no risk of seaweed less heat summer and little risk of frost in winter especially if it is full.

Ah thank you for this clarification on the UV and the PE ... so watch out :)
How does it age under the UV? Harden and crack I suppose?

For the PVC it was a guess, I never bought a tank, I would look the next time I spend in a brico ...

The bury is a solution jonule but it requires a lot of work and a pump to empty unless your land is sloping obviously.

No, I think a small garden shed or a custom-made cladding would be ideal for "camouflaging" one or more cubicles ...

ps: 4 and 5000L ... band of bourins !! I hope it's not for the pinard huh : Mrgreen:
