Hello Lau

A free stem but centered by external means, that is to say a smooth polished rod centered by an axis in the middle is centered further (it is on these rods that we see the spiral)

For nickel catalysts it is more complex than a simple rod is a kind of porous metal designed especially for this use, there is oxide and many other compounds
In the metal powder plant he used catalysts to dissociate the ammonia to make hydrogen (necessary for the furnace annealing annealed) catalysts are something more elaborate than a simple metal piece.
To melt and pour nickel is a little hard for a handyman, nothing but the refractory container and the heat to heat a small amount.
In the trade, relatively easy one can have stems of
1 / 2 and 3 / 4 and 1 inch inconel alloy 600 76% nickel 15,8% chromium. If there is a good differrence with this high ratio of nickel, it will still be time to go into pure nickel.
The problem in my case replace the rod and rather complex on the diesel, on the gasoline auto is easier.

Hello!

I have just been given the price of a nickel bar, the supplier is in Germany.
Length: 200mm
Diameter: 20mm
Price: 247 €HT without the port! : Shock: : Shock: : Shock:

I asked for the price of a bar of graphite to make a test, and even this bit of coal still costs 56 € HT without the port.

I am disgusted! : Cry:

And yes ... the research is expensive .... zavé seen the budget CNRS ... it's not for nothing ...

Hello Lau

it's almost as expensive as gold, my stack of nickel 10ç is gaining value (I have about forty nickel in pick up it is not all nickel I would have to contact the guy from vending machines!) the bar does not measure 20mm but 3 / 4 of inch and it is sold in length of 6 feet.
the other solution is to take an iron rod and go to the chrome plater and put a layer of nickel.
still assuming that everything happens on the surface ...

I must find the time to go to this warehouse at Montéal I would be fixed.

For graphite a chance that you did not order an electrode to melt steel you would fall down your chair (that cost 600 $ in the 80 years when I was working at steelwork that weighs in order of the ton)
Find yourself a big arctic electrode, the most difficult is to remove the copper envelope without breaking the baguette. and for diameters of more than 12,7 mm it is rather rare ...
In summary for tinkering it takes a source of supply other than the specialized sellers who are not interested in selling to private individuals.

Hi André!

you have summed up well: they saw me arrive with my big hooves; they had to say to themselves "wait, he wants 20cm the young man, we'll make him shit if he wants his bar!"
Tonight I sent 2 mails, 1 to Grenoble and another to Belgium; if that fails I go back to the company near my home and I tell them to send the note to Econologie, it's for the good cause! : Cheesy:
more seriously I will ask them for reel thread that I will always be in time to wrap around a stainless steel rod.
When the boy told me that it was ok for the rod, I could not help but answer "nickel chrome" .. oops! and when he announced the price I almost swallowed my tongue!ImageImage
