I agree with andré on the fact that an injection is logically dosed to make a mixture of 1 / 15 .... it is rarely the case except on recent injections, and it is not the lambda probe that calculates the mass of air swallowed by the engine, it is either a flow of air (205 GTI for example) or a probe connected just before the butterfly collector (R25 GTX at random!)

the lambda probe is used on the cars catalyzed to inform the BSI of the rejected gases, some models (surely all today) are equipped with probe before the cat ... and after the cat, to know if it plays well its role : Wink:

The Lambda probe is installed for the dosing of the mixture, as the pot cata only works within a certain dosage range.

Hello,
Oxygen sensor probes appeared on the self well before the catalyst and that since the end of the year 70 in North America
And well before the measurement of air mass Flow, at the beginning the depression of the collector MAP was converted into voltage signal.
and a lot of car rider uses this principle rather than the mass air flow, but the ratio is determined by the output of the computer which is 0,45 volts opposite to the oxygen probe
when the voltage is in equilibrium the injector is at its point of control, it is the principle of all industrial control instruments in loop: a reference, a signal and when the set is zero everything is in balance on the control .
The catalyst has nothing to do with the probe, the ratio yes it is important for what the catalyst can eat.
Ride your vehicle with 100LL aviation gasoline you will see what becomes the catalyst after 3000km, the car riders get rid of catalysts and walk with special lambda sensors,

Andre

Hello,
that's it yes, the probe allows the ratio. What I meant was that the probe was protecting the cat when measuring the ratio.
The gasoline plane must be a little more expensive than the gasoline auto it seems to me.

I will also remove my pot cata on my porsche 944 turbo, but do not say it. Which probe is it? I know that we sometimes use probes that work in a linear way, I remember exactly the principle to use the signal ...

Have you already written a book?
