Re: ecological turbine Archimedes screw
The yield must not be terrible ... or?
But poor performance is better than no return at all in terms of renewable energy

Re: ecological turbine Archimedes screw
why would he bad performance? it runs slowly, no friction loss with water
the main loss is the leakage, but with a good realization leakage are quite low
archimede these screws are always used to pump water from the polder in Holland with windmill: the pumping system that has the best performance ... the centrifugal pump is more economical to build because most small but poor yield
there was also the Sagebien wheel valve or wheel, which had the best performance of all wheel, turning very slowly in a tight fitting steed

Re: ecological turbine Archimedes screw
Friction losses will be at gearbox, also leaking overflow as you say ... hence my remark.
Many of inertia and installation engineering cost and major civil engineering too ...
A mill with paddle wheel is also 2 to fall 4m. How many turbines produce 2 of the photo to any hydraulic power potential? It will be so fixed!
ps: pumping by Archimedes screw is widely used in sewage treatment plants ... I've never studied the Archimedes screw, either by pumping or turbine, comparative information should be readily available on the Internet...

Re: ecological turbine Archimedes screw
Performance may be worse than a Kaplan but the fish should enjoy the slide and this is not a detail.

Re: ecological turbine Archimedes screw
do not mix all the mill wheel dawn ... the majority of the wheel is a stream of water passing under a valve that tape no matter how lousy performance in the wheel
to do better there poncelet the wheel: the jet emerging from the valve tap on the curve dawn ... if the wheel turns to the right speed up the jet on the inside of the wheel and then falls again gives the energy has the wheel to get out almost zero speed the wheel ... poncelet reaches 60% yield, as well as many turbine
Sagebien the wheel or screw archimede is almost static solution, no speed no friction and it's been very good performance ... alas it's slow as you need to build very large for relatively low power ... to make the economy must pay the price

Re: ecological turbine Archimedes screw
220kW and 7.3 m3 / s screws above images ??? I kind of hard to believe but ok ... need more photos to better realize!

Re: ecological turbine Archimedes screw
Day after day, we gain kWh improving many small details. Thus, the screw almost identical to ours supplied by the same manufacturer, put on the Thames in Windsor have an efficiency of about 50% as we reach 70% with the goal of reaching 75%. At Windsor, the operator screws, David Chambeau senior engineer trained in Silicon Valley, is very knowledgeable but did not have time to observe daily how the central in the details. A Heudreville we do daily commonsense observations and test small changes.
After two years, we believe that working together the companies that participated in Heudreville project with David Chambeau who built other central screw on new sites would reduce the minimum initial investment and facilities improve yields screw until 85%. We could equip profitably much larger but also much other smaller sites.
