in my opinion the 25million tonnes of plastic waste are not the waste produced but the waste properly collected
the missing figure is the quantity that escapes this system
and once again if plastic waste had a real positive value it would not get lost
the current waste disposal system is bad by zeroing out the value of recyclable products: it swallows up public money and steals work from scrap dealers and ragpickers
if the money swallowed up by the waste was used to subsidize the recycling industry to impose on them an interesting purchase price for waste, there are a lot of people who would start to recover all that can be

It is a matter of sharing: public money and the free work of "selective sorters" (sic) are collected by private companies which make a profit from them; so there is no reason for this to change ....

Plastic bottles rediscover the deposit
bfmtv 02/08/2015
Automatic bottle recycling kiosks are popping up in the car parks of our supermarkets. In return, the "sorter consumer" receives discount coupons to spend on the spot.
Ecology can benefit the virtuous consumer! This is the meaning of the initiative taken by a subsidiary of Suez Environment, Réco France, which consists in rewarding (modestly) those who make the effort to recycle their plastic bottle that has been used for any type of content (water, milk , shampoo, detergent).
In 2014 alone, 62 tonnes of plastic were thus recovered by the French giant, thanks to this system.
Réco France has installed automatic "kiosks" for recycling plastic bottles near supermarkets. These terminals in return issue vouchers for the benefit of the person who carried out this selective sorting.
2 cents per recycled bottle are granted to the authors of this civic gesture. A modest sum but always greater than the free gesture of dumping plastic bottles and flasks in the recycling bins of their building or house.

Warning! The journalist speaks of instructions, implicitly referring to a practice that existed in the past or in other countries today: the direct reuse of bottles or packaging.
However, this is not the case: it is simply a formula for encouraging sorting for the recycling of the material (a rather vague term which includes incineration), coupled with a marketing aspect, since the derisory remuneration has value only with the "commercial partner" of Suez Environnement ...

2 cents per bottle is very low but better than nothing
it is also proof that some manufacturers understand that positive value is needed to advance recycling
of course this is not a deposit! plastic bottles can not be reused respecting current hygiene standards, but it is at least recycling paid a little
I hope we will end up paying for recycling at a fair price so that nothing is lost

This incentive, even derisory, seems interesting to me (except if the purchase price of the bottle is increased by the amount of the deposit!) Because indeed it brings more motivation to the gesture of sorting.
In my town, the collection bins for bottles are insufficient and not emptied often enough: they overflow onto the roadway and many bottles, however sorted, are thrown into the garbage dumpsters because there is no longer any space in the plastic dumpster.
A better managed collection (commercial issue) with in addition a deposit which goes to the sorter can only improve sorting and motivate the gesture.

"The search for progress does not exclude the love of tradition"
The last time I went to Alsace with my brother (it goes back 4 or 5 years) .. He was shopping in Germany at a food retailer and all his plastic bottles (soda, water, ...) were consigned and reused ... They were of a more solid construction than the French ones but very plastic ... Of course the glass bottles were too ...

Where do the “continents” of plastic waste from the oceans go?
Floating on the surface of the world's oceans and falling apart, plastic waste accumulates in five areas. This is shown by a video from NASA, produced in computer generated images thanks to 35 years of observations of buoys and a model reproducing ocean currents. The results of the two are similar and allow a better understanding of this pollution.

Ahmed, I'm not sure
The most solid Leclerc bags are consigned 80cts, however I often collect them in the trash. They are almost always new.
Suffice to say that in a rich country you should raise the bar so that people are interested.
And believe me it’s not necessarily rich people who throw away
Another example, I have to collect all the scrap and aluminum cans that I found on my work trip
Well it takes a long time to recover 10th.
In fact about 0.8ct the can approximately
The tramp near the post office in my village earns more by begging.
That's why he doesn't care about the cans in the trash right next to him!

your quote is weird ... it's not ahmed it's me
when recyclable material has a real value we don't throw it away
the case of the 1 euro super market bag is different ... it is not worth anything, it is not solid ... of course when it is cracked we can get a new one but it does not bring anything, just a poor quality bag that will crack a few months later
when I need a bag in a supermarket I never buy a 1 euro bag too biodegradable: I buy big garbage bag in general sold under the name of gravas bag, cheaper and more solid .. but mistrust the old etaien black and solid, UV resistant ... often we see gray, much less durable
