Hello,
I am a fan of top-down lighting, i.e. lighting the fire from above.
You know him ?
Take a look at the Switzerland site:

And finally, a Canadian video: http://www.ec.gc.ca/cleanair-airpur/vid ... gt-Eng.wmv

top down ignition
Hello, I saw this subject treated on another forum if you want I give you the link by mp, to light you can also use a compressed wood barbecue lighter, do not feel, to light this type of fire, some use a pine cone

Hello,
By typing mass stove on google you can find a manufacturer who has videos on the top down, and on futura in the queue on this subject, you will find auto builders specialist in this way of lighting the fire (hey johnny ).
As far as I am concerned, I did like everyone else, but reads what I remember.
Main risk. When you prepare the fire you all do so that it starts the first time, result you charge and as soon as it starts to burn it settles. Result if your wood and a little too wet or too much load, you have open the draw, but it doesn't really start, you open the door and you take your nose, not to mention that if it smells the entry of fresh air can cause a flashback.
Pollution and yes poor combustion slowed down the rise in temperature is therefore at best fouling your duct which are badly burnt gases. And according to the pros at ppm levels the compounds are not co2 (nox .... ).
So this winter I try, in total less pollutant, faster temperature rise and safety.
Some bad pieces dried herbs and a few fragments of wood, avoid using a barbecue lighter when the pine cone bursts as I do not know what temperature projects more than 50m (which causes the outbreak of fire in forest fires) if it happens when opening the door hello tanning

ignition
good evening, here are some videos on the top down ignition

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RD0exR5r ... re=related
as it will soon be cold so at least we can make a good fire in his chimney which lasts a long time

... yes, and all those who have already made a fire know that it is not easy, because everything depends on the "ignition module". Without the latter:
- 4 fir logs 3 x 3cm and about 20cm long.
- 1 fire starter in hardened wood wool (hardened, I don't know what that means?). + Open the air supply ...
... no need to think about lighting from above!
It is clear: dry wood, and in particular fir, burns well. But we rarely have that available when we make a fire!
So it takes a little bit of investment and preparation. Indeed, after experiments in multiple conditions, I sincerely doubt that the ignition from the top of a fire will work without this "module" (or similar) and under usual conditions, therefore heterogeneous ... (what temperature and degree humidity of the room, wood, with or without bark, very dry or still "young", variety of type of species ... what kind of fire starter, paper? ...)
But if you don't have it, you can try to take inspiration from it. I have not tried top-down, but it seems that the empty milk briquettes or cardboard fruit juices burn well. So why not...
But don't forget the basic security measures:

No problem with the top down, whatever the wood used, you just need to make a nice, fairly airy pile and some little wood on top and one or two sheets of paper.

Good evening, here is the unearthing of a subject, here is the subject had been raised on cyber DIYers at the time http://www.cyberbricoleur.com/index.php ... 1100103559
9 reading page but interesting ideas, it seems that with this technique the combustion is slower
so we heat up longer, with winter approaching
