WOW!
it's all there, on one document: thermoelectricity and new alloys, Stirling, online steam generation on the exhaust at BMW, thermodynamic recovery cycles ...
Interresting !

Hi friends !
You know that the farfouy always on Stirling ... here are some nice video links on laminar flow engines, close to "thermoacoustics" (this notion that I do not yet understand very precisely)

They are apparently Americans. Beautiful achievements ...

A project on the production of cold in ships by thermo-acoustics has just been labeled by the Poles Mer Bretagne and PACA. This project is described in the last issue of Les Echos du Pôle (December 2009):

if the thermoacoustic machine has a too bad output in refrigeration machine that means that it will never function in engine
it's not like a steam engine, the lower the pressure the worse the efficiency but it still works
the strirling engine has the same problem if there is too much loss it does not work at all in engine, it can just be used in refrigeration machine

I agree, but the goal is to make cold by exploiting heat losses. "Free" cold, in a way. Energy efficiency is not of extreme importance. The questions I ask myself are
- the size and weight of the assembly, (penalizing on a boat)
- the cost price of the refrigerator compared to a compressor system,
- comparison with other systems (peltier effect, ...).
The steam engine can be an alternative for cooling through an electric generator, but, to my knowledge, it only exists in large dimensions. Do you know steam engines between 1 and 10 kW?

the starting question is thermoacoustic "generator" so to transform heat into electricity or mechanical ...
if the question is no longer just to get cold it's something else
for the yield the current machine with various fluid compression are largely the best
even when you want to use a thermal energy source the steam thermal engine couple with compression refrigeration machine gives a better total efficiency than an absorption machine which uses heat directly
but it's not just performance in life: there are cases where some systems are cheaper or have other advantages
but if I had to improve a boat engine I would put a steam engine running with its waste heat, and this energy would be used as well to churn turn a refrigerating machine as to advance the boat the days when there is no need cold
this steam system is already classic for very large boat engines: there is nothing to invent but it must be done seriously by an engine manufacturer, not easy to tinker
more down to earth, I am working on a small engine project for cogeneration of some mechanical KW: its engine block will be strong enough to serve as a steam boiler instead of making hot water at 90 ° it will make steam at 120 ° and 2bar: the exhaust pipe and the exhaust pot will be integrated into the block to avoid any heat loss and any leakage

Thermoacoustics and automotive
Hello,
Inventor of a force recovery system for suspensions on rolling vehicles for the purpose of ecological air conditioning of the passenger compartment, I plan to install a thermoacoustic machine in order to cool or heat rolling vehicles such as trains, trams, metros, refrigerated trucks, electric cars, etc ...
I am looking for contacts in order to validate and quantify the potentials of this innovation, could someone possibly direct me in my approach?
According to UNI measurements, a differential from 9 / 11Hz to 8,5 / 10,5Hz can be used.
If you require further information, I remain at your disposal.
Have a good day,
Sincerely,
Christophe Verna http://www.climaverna.com/
