Europe: backing in support of ENR

The 27 countries of the European Union backtrack in their support for renewable energies

The Energy Council, bringing together the 27 ministers concerned, rejected the proposal for a binding target for 20% of RE in the overall energy range. A paradoxical decision since the objective of reducing GHG emissions is maintained.

Last January, the European Commission presented its proposals for its energy action plan to tackle climate change while strengthening energy security and EU competitiveness.
It proposed to the 27 members of the EU to reduce its greenhouse gas emissions by 20% by 2020, in particular through measures in the field of energy.

To achieve this objective, the committee wanted energy savings and especially investments in renewable energies by proposing a binding objective according to which 20% of the overall energy mix of the EU should be produced from renewable sources here. 2020.
