Choose a hydraulic micro turbine: Pelton or propeller?

Renewable energies except solar electric or thermal (seeforums dedicated below): wind turbines, energy from the sea, hydraulic and hydroelectricity, biomass, biogas, deep geothermal energy ...

the main quality of the turbine peleton is its good performance even at reduced power if you have a needle injector that injects just enough

remains to find the right way of realization, mechanical regulator has ball big enough to order directly the injection

ball regulator which controls a hydraulic system

electronic regulator which controls an electric motor which opens the injector

it does not matter the way, but what is on it is that the peleton can rotate at a constant speed to not need a battery ... the edf does it in large since always, nothing prevents to do it small

The optimum is certainly not reached. However one understands very well the operation of a micro-Pelton and the adjustment by valve is very practical. On the video we can also see that there is no injector, they are plumbing sleeves ... still lost energy ...

the adjustment by the valve is an error ... if we close the valve half the loss of energy is catastrophic!

if we reduce the flow by a needle injector we do not reduce the speed of the jet, we only reduce the diameter of the jet and we keep the same nominal speed of the turbine, and the same efficiency ... we can even have better efficiency at partial power than at max power because at partial power the water has more room to bounce in the spoon

I still have trouble imagining a mechanical system responsive enough to drive the micro Pelton which with this size has no real inertia. Why not pilot it in all or nothing on the charge level of a small battery and why even control it on 4 injectors so as to make the most of the stream flow depending on the use. Finally the battery would only be used to drive on low load 1,2,3 or 4 injectors.

I meant in all or nothing, indeed a partial opening spherical valve is catastrophic because the turbulence caused are enormous
