Hydroelectric turbines

by Blaugrana » 02/01/10, 17:58

Can someone help me by telling me the advantages and disadvantages of the different turbines of hydroelectric dams: Pelton turbine, Francis and Kaplan.

Thank you!

Oh there ... it would be necessary to dissert a long time ...

Let's say to go to the simplest and in order of magnitude:

- Pelton : suitable for high falls (> 100 m) and low flow (

- Francis : intermediate turbine in height of fall and flow: turbine of the rivers with average falls, it exploits the flow of the jet of a peripheral zone towards a central zone (which takes energy with the fluid)

- Kaplan : adapted to low falls (a few meters) and high flow (> 10 m3 / s), it is the turbine of rivers or large rivers, even driving tides: works a bit like a hydraulic (the fluid keeps the same direction, but the fluid tube widens as the fluid slows).

There are also "unconventional" turbines like the Banki-Mitchell, the Turgo, but also the ancient water wheels (below, above) ... Internet is your friend, like this good site:

Whaouh! A huge archimedes screw used in turbine. I did not know it existed on this scale.

I'll be curious to know the performance ... it leaves me a little skeptical.

Wow!

Really effective!

12 Kw / h for this small flow and the height of the fall, had to think about it, it recovers a maximum of energy and very simple to manufacture and install.

This system will seek the maximum recoverable energy because the force exerted is completely converted, if we stop the screw the flow ceases except for a small flow according to the precision of the assembly.

I classify it as the most effective of all the systems seen so far!

turbine screw archimede

by oli 80 » 09/01/10, 21:10

Good evening, it seems that the patent is Dutch or English according to the origin of the authors of the videos, but I think more than it is English because to dandridges he has one since the 19 eme century

well for christophe again one turbine more : Mrgreen:

must see if we find this model on wiki

Good evening, this type of turbine is also used as a bow thruster on the ships, but now they are also used as a turbine and this double - spiral archimede screw offers a very high power
