Advice for small wind turbine

Renewable energies except solar electric or thermal (seeforums dedicated below): wind turbines, energy from the sea, hydraulic and hydroelectricity, biomass, biogas, deep geothermal energy ...

I think back to the economics of it.

When we see the complexity of the diesel generator group at 800 € on another thread, compared to the complexity of the wind turbine and its peak power, that leaves me a little pensive ...

It will also be interesting to see the actual production on 1 year, relative to the peak power, and compared to the solar panel. I understood that the main interest is to be able to produce when the direct sun is not available.

I do not see anything disproportionate between the 2 one does 3000w but it must be given fuel and oil and it will last 2000 or 4000h

the other only does 400w max and less on average but it will do so for a long time without consuming anything and at the first failure in a few years it will be easy to repair

when the diesel engine is broken down, you will have to change parts that cannot be found or are so expensive that it will go to scrap

I agree on the cost of dispute, that's why I was interested in knowing the average production of energy, to quantify things.

But I did not pass judgment between the two, I just talked about my pensive state, which I know quite well since it is about me :-)

Thanks to this forum and in these 2 parallel discussions, for which I thank the participants in passing, I became aware of a significant difference in market price, which I did not know and which I cannot justify by the manufacturing cost. The price difference per kg alone must be impressive.

Simply, to make a wind turbine, I should perhaps buy the generator of the diesel group and the blades of the other :-)

Because normally an 3KW generator is more expensive than an 0,4KW generator, and the blades can have a complex shape to develop in design, but easy to mold in mass production. Shouldn't we be in mass production yet?

I do not know what it is about this diesel generator group (surely another subject that I have not read on this forum) but if you plan to recover the 3kw generator from this group to make a wind turbine, be on windy potential that you have where you want to put it, because for such power, the wind turbine will not be able to make 1m in diameter : Cheesy: and suddenly to train the beast you will need a good constant wind otherwise it will not be profitable at all if the beast does not rotate or too little.

the weight and therefore the price of an alternator depending especially on the torque not the power

as the generator of the wind turbine turns rather slowly it is also heavy for a weaker power

worse below a certain speed the coiled excitation would eat more than it produces, so permanent magnets are more expensive than the iron and copper of a normal alternator

but why bother to make alternator directly coupled to the wind turbine

with a speed multiplier a much cheaper alternator would suffice

avoiding the trap of car alternators which are too badly screwed up ... too thick iron with huge eddy current losses ...

we sometimes object to the noise of a gear multiplier: there are also the notched belts that I criticize on the distribution of the engine but which is very good for small wind turbines!

all the belts that we systematically change to 100 000 km on cars could be used for a long time on wind turbines: when they break it won't hurt anyone

Indeed, sorry not to have put this link to you:

I put :-) after (sorry, I only have the ascii reflexes). But it was not clear, I said that as an example, I do not intend to do so.

SDC wind turbine

by Batbat » 25/12/09, 20:29

Hello,

I recently ordered a wind turbine from SDC, it is indeed a reseller in France.

The material as a reference "MW-400" for the model in 400W by searching on google it is possible to find more info.

http://www.macro-wind.com/MW400.htm

I had an AIR-X400 for a year, a real ordeal, an unbearable hiss so that at 500m in the street the noise was really heard too much.

I specify that I am in Lorraine, in the heart of a village, the winds are too weak for an AIR X.

Going back to the SDC wind turbine, it has been installed since yesterday, it is starting to turn and oddly ... not a sound :) I admit being amazed for the moment.

The rest soon!

Thank you Batbat!

The site is very simple and very interesting: they seem to have really targeted 1 type of product.

Feedback on your installation will be expected :-)

Is it the 12V or 24V version? That of the site is in 24V.

Thank you for the site, it's cool, there is already a lot of info on this wind turbine. Yes it is true that the wind turbine is very very silent, even when it turns the bowls fully. Personally it is the noise made by the air x (in addition to its price) which made that I did not buy it. At power equal to air x we have the much cheaper price, the silence and also 6 blades to turn in weaker winds. Keep us informed of your installation.

It is indeed the 24v which is presented on their site, I wonder if like on many small wind turbines, it is not an internal switch which gives the choice between 12 or 24 volts in output. I will send them an email to get the technical doc, it's always useful. The type is therefore the MW400 (MacroWind brand) thank you for your info.

Hello Darwenn,

How is your wind turbine standing today?

Because seen the wind around here, it's gone like in 1999 ...
