Small clarification: do not misunderstand my previous post, when I say "in France we never understood the idea of risk taking and the idea of investment ...", we must understand that Iter is an exception, which is indeed to be celebrated.

ITER: Bernard Bigot's mandate renewed
01th February 2019
The ITER Council renewed the mandate of the Director General of the ITER Organization for five years.
Taking into account the results obtained under his mandate and anticipating the challenges presented by the next phase of assembly and installation, the Council considers that the success of the program requires continuity in its governance, said the press release issued by Iter Organization.
At the beginning of the month, the ITER Council unanimously decided to offer Bernard Bigot a second five-year term as head of the ITER Organization. Since March 2015, the date on which Bernard Bigot took up his duties as managing director, the program has rigorously complied with the requirements of the Action Plan aimed at ensuring the success of construction work and the manufacture of parts for the machine and installation systems.
Confirmed by external audits, the overall performance of the program has recorded spectacular progress both in terms of cost and on schedule. ITER has today finalized 60% of the tasks essential for the production of the First Plasma in 2025, an essential step towards full power operations from 2035.
In a message to the staff, Bernard Bigot underlined the importance of the responsibilities and the workload associated with the position of general manager: “I am fully aware of the scope of the challenges that must be met and of the responsibilities that fall to the Director General (…) Rest assured of my commitment to do everything in my power to ensure the success of ITER ”.
For his part, Arun Srivastava, the President of the ITER Council, sees in this renewal a strong commitment, on both sides, to ensure the continuity and the quality of governance at a time when ITER is entering the assembly phase. and installation. “Bernard Bigot has demonstrated his ability to combine a visionary approach and the daily management of a program of unprecedented complexity. The Board congratulates Bernard Bigot on his exceptional performance and is pleased that he has accepted a second term as head of the ITER Organization. The Council undertakes to support it in the pursuit of its action ... ”.
