Health consequences 3 years later:
Three years after the explosion of the DeepWater Horizon platform in the Gulf of Mexico and the spreading of more than 6,4 million liters of the dispersant Corexit, the health consequences of the "cleanup" of the oil spill are starting to appear.
Headaches, rashes, respiratory disorders, nausea, memory loss, chronic fatigue ... A hundred people reported these symptoms to Dr. Robichaux, whose office is located in the city of Raceland about sixty kilometers from New Orleans, notes Le Monde. They are also those of Steve Kolian, a resident of the region, interviewed by the Huffington Post. If no study allows to certify it, these disorders, which affect an increasing number of New Orleans residents and people working on the cleanup of the oil spill, would be linked to the massive spreading of Corexit, a solvent used to dissolve oil slicks. The National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences is currently conducting an epidemiological survey of 33 people who have worked in this area and which will take 000 years to understand and analyze the health impact of this disaster. In the meantime, and despite the doubts, no link has yet been proven between the massive use of the solvent and these health problems.
