Hi Lumberjack,
Yes indeed, the term MOX comes mainly from the English name "mixed oxid". There is even the French version Melox ("mixture of oxides")
Sometimes we also shorten in MOx chemistry to say that a metal M carries x oxygen.
MOX is a jargonizing name that masks the content of the product: about 7% PuO2 (Pu being a fissile 239) and 93% UO2 (Uranium is a fertile 238).
The MOX was developed to recycle the Pu239 formed with pure uranium and used from the power plants (mainly containing U238 because it is depleted in U235 at the end of the fissions ...), while recombining with the large quantities of U238 "lying around" all over the nuclear industry.
This to make a kind of fuel up to from pure uranium fuel waste (Pu239 and U238)
MOX is a kind of "charcoal" in the Nuke industry. Its economic relevance is the subject of debate ... If generation IV of the Phoenix type were widely promoted, MOX would immediately lose its interest, except for supplying MOX reactors currently in operation.
But all this is already very expensive and pollutes a lot.
Waste, the nuclear nightmare, a show to see ...

I was finally able to see it (4 days without ADSL to run in PSTN at 40K on Free Access). I was quite surprised by the report.
I am at the base rather pro qu'anti nuclear but here ...
I did not think La Hague released as much radioactive Krypton into the atmosphere ... Ditto for the exit of the aqueduct spitting waste in the Channel ...
In addition, open storage without protection. It would be enough of a sabotage or a big storm to disperse the cans and possibly their content ...

Did any of you record it "for the distracted" ?!
Thanks in advance,

On the subject of the Crèvecoeur-le-Grand recycling dump, Christine had a sentence full of common sense:
Imagining that objects (or other) "thrown" by some are used as resources by others corresponds well to the idea that I have of an econological approach.
On the other hand, in the case of our radioactive waste considered by others as resources, it is already much colder in the back ...
see a resource where others see only waste

This is true for mortality immediatebut concerning the effects of the atomic industry (as of that of the chemical industry) it is a very irrelevant presentation since the dangerousness of these products (except accident) is manifested only at the end of a sometimes very long latency. In addition, these effects are often quite difficult to discern other environmental or other factors (especially if you do not want to!).
There is therefore some invisibility of these deleterious effects, however this does not mean the absence of serious and irreversible damage to human health.
Another point to emphasize, on such an important topic, neverthe choice of nuclear power has not been subject to prior public debate.
Already the nuke is the energy and very very far the least deadly in terms of death / GWh products compared to gas, oil and coal!
