Nuclear: fire in the Penly reactor building

by Christophe » 05/04/12, 16:35

Fresh on twitter:

#Fire in progress in a reactor building of #Penly's nuclear power plant (Seine-Maritime) #EDF

http://www.franceinfo.fr/faits-divers/i ... 2012-04-05

Minor fire, according to EDF, in a room located in reactor building number 2. A dozen firefighters on site, in addition to EDF's fire-fighting teams. The reactor shut down automatically.

Take dosimeters and measure, all around, to know if it's true ????

A fire on an industrial site is, not lacking, never without gravity!

The first gravity is that it is triggered!

On a nuclear site, and even more in a BR, the remark is even more true!

on the evening of 3 at 23:05 p.m. they said that it was the oil from a water pump that leaked and the pump that smoked. There would still have been a radioactive water leak.

Without gravity: there is just a leak in the primary !!! : Shock: : Shock:

EDF noted a radioactive "water leak" from the primary circuit of the Penly reactor (Seine-Maritime), affected earlier by two fires. The leak is "collected in tanks provided for this purpose", said the operator.

For those who don't know exactly where the Penly power station was (this was my case): https://www.econologie.com/le-nombre-de- ... -3296.html

1st ASN report: http://asn.fr/index.php/S-informer/Actu ... e-de-Penly

At around noon on April 5, 2012, ASN was informed by EDF of the start of a fire on reactor 2 of the Penly nuclear power plant and of the automatic shutdown of the reactor.

EDF teams and firefighters entered the reactor building and extinguished puddles of burning oil.

This fire led EDF to trigger the emergency plan applicable in the event of a fire.

On April 5, 2012, around 19:30 p.m., following the start of the fire in the afternoon, ASN was informed by EDF of a fault on a gasket on a pump in the primary circuit of reactor 2 of the Penly nuclear power plant. This fault caused a water leak greater than the normal value, this leak being collected by circuits provided for this purpose.

This situation led EDF to apply incidental driving procedures to lower the pressure and temperature of the water in the primary circuit. These actions have already made it possible to significantly reduce the leak and bring it back to forecast values.

In this context, ASN has lifted its crisis mechanism. She remains in contact with EDF and IRSN.

This incident had no consequences for the environment. ASN has provisionally classified this event at level 1 on the INES scale.

The Caen division will carry out an inspection this Friday, April 6 at the Penly site to analyze the causes of the incident.
