Uncontrolled recharge of lithium batteries: danger

by Christophe » 17/07/09, 14:04

Here is what can happen when using a battery charger not suitable for a lithium battery:

Impressive ... but true!

The video does not say under what conditions it exploded, I assume an overvoltage + overload ...

lithium batteries

hello, hard on the batteries, I saw on TV on arte a program (xenius) (between 19 p.m. and 19:30 p.m.) above.

he was talking about new batteries charged with the risk of explosion due to shock and overcharging, and worse, with a foreign body like a nail stuck in it, which made a nice battery run, resulting in explosion swelling and a lot toxic vapor. (heat released, more or less 600 degrees)

so be careful with the new batteries, take the right charger.

Uh, does it feel like Macro?

To detonate a lead battery, what should you do? Send him 100 A?

No ... One morning I arrived at my job one of my guys had put the battery of his motorbike to recharge on our charger provided for the batterries PL in charge at fifteen Amperes ... It was placed on the ground. .When she broke the plugs were planted in the ceiling cupboard ... the battery vent had to be plugged or I don't know what ... We were left for a good scare (smoke in a classified site ) and a big cleaning session ...

There is also the classic blow of the guy who shunts a car on another by crossing the polarities and that of the guy who controls the load by arcing the battery with a shunte..Which stays stuck ... Vlouffff ....

Me in the explosion genre ... I farted in my basement a little near a glass of gas from an electrolysis of water ... The cover and the electrodes of the electrolyser flew to the ceiling ... The door that was ajar closed ... my ears whistled for two days ... : Shock: : Shock: 5 minutes later the electrolyser was plugged in under the hood of my car : Mrgreen: With the only result of changing the smell at the exit of the pot ... It went from Fried herring to smell of cathalysed diesel ...

Hello
Being a model aircraft maker, Lipo batteries must have anti-overload security, otherwise:

This is quite the message I wanted to get across!

The cow, the car that exploded is scary ...

Hope EV chargers are "safe" in the event of failure!

: Arrow: In fact this is the reason why EV Lithium are so late ... Only BYD has started to produce. But this manufacturer is the first world manufacturer of lithium battery, it holds approximately 35% of market share in the mobile telephony ...
The powers involved in the automobile have nothing in common ...

The big problem with this technology is that the battery contains the fuel AND the oxidizer.
So if we reach the critical phase, and if combustion takes place, we can no longer stop it ... just limit the effects (cool and prevent spread to nearby facilities).
