Yes, 45 degree holes on the edges give an explosion around the electrodes, a thrust of the gases which strike the top of the piston and then there can be jets of flame through these two holes which ignite faster the whole air / fuel mixture. You can also notice it by ear, because the engine then makes less noise and it runs better ;-)
