I think that the first obstacle to the development of this type of engine is its excessive complexity.
It is a system developed by Toyota which is supposed to eliminate nitrogen oxide and particles thanks to a dual circuit catalytic converter called DPNR (Diesel Particulate - NOx Reduction system).
