I am not a specialist in Pantone, nor in what you proposed (and I do not work at Renault :-)) => I will maybe say nonsense.
Renault does not claim water injection (they say that this principle is known). They claim something very specific: the fact of having several streams of water, in several streams of recirculated gases.
If this is what you had already done, then it will indeed be difficult to break by individuals, BUT do not worry: other manufacturers will take care of it! As someone said, it suffices to prove that the claim was considered publicly (therefore on a forum) and before 2005 for the patent to fall! Not very hard if it's real!
Water injection and EGR patent by Renault

Hi Zac:
I need if you can indicate me a link where a diesel is applied dopaje to water in a turbo intercooler engine.
I will thank a prompt response.
thank you very much for your kindness.

It is not that which annoys me, that he makes the system and that he put it into application bravo, that is what we have preached for a long time, but that the superior race in white coats, the elite with pedigrees, thick as an Arm, criticized us as an ignorant and liar garage keeper, doing (approximately) the same thing as us, I would be embarrassed when I think of Doctor S's statement.
it is certain that with a little research and their laboratory, personal, resource, available, that they will do something better than all of us together.
Hello,
yes it is frustrating indeed, for the ace of mechanics like you!
For my part, I created an association last year, and I started to push doors at the university. I went to the Thermal and Energy Engineering department. I met the director, who showed me that these students had mounted a mower ... it works (well the engine runs with water), it's cool, but it's not going any further!
I explained to him a little the approach of the association and the desire to deepen the research. He took me to see the teacher in charge of the "engine bench" room ... (he's the one who took care of the students with the mower in addition). I explained to him that the pantone is to exceed and that we do steam doping, with the possibility of EGR to have the gas and that we wanted to do tests ... he told me it was going to be hard because they have a new engine test bench financed by Renault (€ 300) and that the team was going to have a maddening test pace, so no time to take care of a green student who works for an association
I tried to gather means to advance the thing ... now I hope not to be blocked!

But the situation is still hilarious ...
I also wonder, last year I did not stop talking to X prof, and I even made a presentation on the EGR and concluding on the pantone / vapor doping !! because there were similarities on these systems !!!
but it is not a vulgar student like me who will make the weight against these sharks ... remain more than to hope that the other manufacturers dismantle their pumped patent !!!
PS re-edition: good, I just checked the date of my presentation: January 2007!
and I just hit ... the patent filing date is December 2005!
Anyway ... anyway I don't even know the legal value of this presentation ... it's surely zero!

I just came across this subject via the subject on the science and life article. I am surprised by your reactions to the fact that a car manufacturer has filed a patent on water injection.
This should make you happy, because it shows that this system is not without interest.
The patent claims do not relate to the injection of water itself, but to a solution for injecting it into the cylinders by coupling it to an EGR injection ramp. Which is not at all the same.
Moreover, the majority of patents relate to improvements in existing systems and not to new processes.
Regarding the drawings, it is fairly standard to make basic diagrams of the principle that we want to patent. What matters are the claims, not the design.
If you look at the last page, you will see the results of the prior art search. This is done on the basis of the claims filed in the RSA patent. It is a keyword research. It seems that concerning these, there are other patents which claim things quite close. Sometimes the claims are so close that the patent has little value in a possible copy lawsuit. Filing a patent does not necessarily mean that you are 100% covered. In the event of litigation, only the courts make law.

Quite ... technologically it is not the same but in the results in terms of thermodynamics it gets very close ...
In addition, a good number of our detractors, motorists in the "official" BE for some, had (and still have for some) for only argument that the injection of water only deteriorates the combustion and reduces the lifespan of engine and therefore that this technique is completely "crazy" ... or this patent tends to prove the opposite...
In addition, the fact of heating the water injected by / into the exhaust gases looks drastically like doping with water ...thermodynamically obviously speaking ...
