I tested in engine oil in my old car, but I did not make a measurement. Not being in good condition I cannot make a reliable conclusion. What I can say is that it is not easy at all to dissolve and if it is apparently poorly dissolved it is risky. You must at least be sure to master this parameter, but dissolved I do not think there is any risk. To dissolve it I I diluted it in a little acetone and then in mineral oil while heating everything. Then I recovered the oil and left the crystallized deposit at the bottom

"Consumption is similar to a search consolation, a way to fill a growing existential void. With, the key, a lot of frustration and a little guilt, increasing the environmental awareness." (Gérard Mermet)

I took it in pharmacy, in powder form. It costs nothing at all. For info I found in boric acid a lot of similarity with products of the genus mecacyl and mecarun. And I am even sure that that's their secret
