Measure for energy savings

by hug » 12/12/06, 12:17

Hello,

In order to save money in my home, I want to set up a number of tests before and after.
For it to be quite complete and rigorous, I would like to have your opinion.

Here is a first idea of the positions to be tested and the protocols.

1) Protocol: general principles
Perform 2 comparative tests lasting one week:
* 2 consecutive weeks
ou
* 1 year interval for improvements requiring work
Whenever possible, try to maintain similar conditions. But we can not guarantee that the weather conditions are the same.
Optionally, the whole could be repeated 2 or 3 times for more reliability.
Try to isolate the factors: one improvement from one test to another.

2) Posts, Measurements
Position: Heating (CHO) Measure:
Consumption on the meter + Amount of the invoice
Estimate of GHG emissions on http://kyot-home.com/
Position: Lighting (LUM) Size: ???
Item: Refrigeration (FRI) Measurement: KW consumed (measured by power meter) Protocol: Front defrost and same content
Item: Freezing (GEL) Measurement: KW consumed (measured by power meter) Protocol: same content
Item: Recharging Small Appliances (REC) Measurement: KW consumed (measurement per wattmeter)
Item: Cold water (OFR) Measurement: M3 consumed (meter reading) Protocol: same number of detergents
Item: Hot water (OCH) Measurement: M3 consumed (meter reading) Protocol: same number of showers
Item: Waste (DEC) Measure: Weight [Glass, hollow body, remains]

3) Improvements to test. For each improvement, cost, help obtained, savings realized
Heating (CHO)
Insulate the attic
Isolate the soil
Install double glazed windows
Insulate the walls
Install a Canadian / Provenal well
Installing a veranda
Lighting (LUM)
Change bulbs for low energy bulbs (living rooms)
Install a timer (low presence parts)
Install a presence detector (low presence parts)
Refrigeration (FRI)
Change fridge
Move the refrigerator further away from heating, cooking and the sun
Freezing (GEL)
Change freezer
Move the freezer further from heating, cooking and sun
Recharging Small Appliances (REC):
Using a solar panel + battery
Cold water (OFR)
??
Hot water (OCH)
Install aerators
Install a combined solar water heater
Waste (DEC)
??

Thank you in advance for your ideas to complete / specify this first draft.
As and when, I want to publish the information on the web. If there is already a similar base (in France or elsewhere), I am ready to join.

Looking forward to reading you.

Hello Hug,

Your approach is very interesting. I suggest you to provide a consumer meter PM230 econology shop. This is what you would need to correctly measure the consos of your different devices.

I am sending you my msn by PM, I would like us to discuss a little more because you could really bring a nice stone to Kyot-Home. Your project crosses over an idea that I had to carry out a "tutorial" as complete as possible to make a methodical waste hunt at either. It's a bit big but with several ... there is a way.

There are plenty of "tutorials" on the web and elsewhere.
The only plus would be to have a basis of comparison and real numbers.

The only renewable energy is energy saving.
