Hello
Christophe wrote:It is not false André ... although I am not sure that it was not the battle of the bulge which was the most deadly for the allies right?

The landing was widely publicized, but the fiercest fighting awaited the Allies just before returning to Germany
It is not the battle of the bulge which is also more publicized in the films, but in Alsace, Lorraine, Vosges where the American losses were more important than at the landing
(I can no longer find the figures and in which documents ..) which, moreover, surprised me, but as soon as I have access to it I will communicate it to you.

Many people ignore that during the last war, Russia alone had almost half the deaths of the whole conflict.
20 million out of a total of 40 to 50 million including Japan

Yes it is possible, but it must be said that Alsace was already "almost" Germany at least psychologically for the Germans ... and it is an Alsatian speaking.

A lot of "despite us" integrated into the WM by force but also bcp of alsaciens voluntarily joined the SS divisions...

Yes for Russia, the biggest battle in history is, I believe, the Battle of Kursk. The landing next door is an "operetta" ... with all due respect to those who participated ... but it was mostly Americans so we have to talk about it more than the others ...

It doesn't smell good ...
Revelations of America's Secret War on Iran

This morning, the weekly "The New Yorker" has just posted a very important article on the secret war that America has been waging on Iranian soil for several months.

Journalist Seymour Hersh, who is generally extremely knowledgeable, reveals that at the end of last year the White House obtained from Congress an envelope of 400 million dollars to finance special operations in Iran of a vast scope that those carried out so far.

Their goals?

To destabilize the leadership of the Islamic Republic and obtain information on its nuclear work.

How?

By providing money and weapons to Arab opposition groups (one of which is said to be close to Al Qaida), Balouches, Kurds and Iranians (including the National Council of the Resistance, which is nevertheless classified as a terrorist organization).
Everything would be organized from a secret base in western Afghanistan.

Results?

According to information gathered by Hersh, it appears - but this is not certain - that these groups have carried out several "executions" of senior officials of the Revolutionary Guards (the key Iranian power organization from which President Ahmadinejad came) .

According to the "New Yorker" journalist, at least four leaders of the Democratic Party (majority in Congress) have agreed to this intensification of special operations in Iran.

But, according to him, lawmakers have not been made aware of the details and in particular of the targeted "executions" - and this, in contradiction with the law.

Hersh also insists that he believes the White House is seriously considering military strikes against Iran but faces opposition from the Pentagon and its leader, the Secretary of State for Defense , Robert Gates.

The latter would have said during a lunch, at the end of 2007, with democratic parliamentarians: if we attack Iran, "we will create generations of jihadists and our grandchildren will have to fight our enemies here in America."

But he said that was his point of view, not that of the White House.

Hersh, who titled his article "Preparations for the Battlefield," seems convinced that the intensification of special operations is a further step towards war.

If he is right, it is quite possible that the next President of the United States will discover in January 2009 that strikes are already planned - exactly as Kennedy discovered the military operation to overthrow the Castro regime in January 1961.

At the time, the young president had not dared, knew or wanted to oppose the all-powerful boss of the CIA, Allen Dulles, and had given the green light to what was to become the disaster of the Bay of pigs.

What would Obama do in this case?
