Bottle in the sea, laptop stolen from my car

by elephant » 31/01/11, 00:58

Help! I was churaved my laptop on Sunday afternoon in my car in Charleroi!

It is an Acer Travelmate 5730 under XP

It is in a Samsonite black cloth bag designed to hold two computers, (therefore, very thick)

The kit contains the computer, its power supply, a blue box like screw box containing piles of small cables and adapters
and lots of big adapter cables.

If you ever see him go by, thank you for telling me.

It is advisable not to leave in the cars beautiful computer bags visible!
I put them in a garbage bag disheveled in the car in a mess not possible!

Probability of diminished flight !!

I know, I was in a hurry, I stopped for a race of 5 minutes, a door was not locked (it's a van)

Good luck with the trash bag

... yes, usually thieves do not throw trash in your place;)

Sorry for you, it's always very boring, especially if you have not done a recent back up.

Note that there are several sites where you can advertise stolen material! This is where you have to post. And of course to the police ... On the day of a search, they can find equipment (although for cellphones, once stolen they are immediately expired according to "Complément d'Enquête" ...)

Otherwise there is in my corner a big cheap second hand market ... if you are looking for something "special":

Sorry for you elephant especially that it seems to me from a previous discussion that you were careful about this kind of thing ...

It's still good to no longer live in "the" city! (especially with the crisis these kinds of behaviors increase ...)

The value of the laptop is worth less times than the info that is in it. So I just hope that on this point you took the necessary steps (if laptop pro ...) :| :|

Really sorry for you Elephant :-(

Find it by the MacAdresse network card, it will be hard ...

A tip: for travel, nothing beats a bad old pc, installed in FreeBSD or linux, with a real password and disk encryption ...

And an automatic backup of snapshots when you connect to the house.

It seems to me that there is hidden anti-theft software that locates and sends you hidden emails with the IP address and the rest, as soon as the thief connects to the internet.

We should be able to do this for free if the computer automatically calls an address via dyndns like a surveillance camera that I have at home or sends secret emails.
DynDns provides the address of the computer. DynDNS gives such a program.

Or if you have an automatic email program sent to each connection to a personal email address that always gives the starting IP.
or if a computer with a web camera incorporated with the thief's photo!

Ask your ADSL operator, or even the police after filing a complaint, if it is not possible to have the IP addresses of calls to your email, if by chance the thief connects to watch or use your emails with your passwords, or any other special website for you.

Excellent suggestion + 1000, simple, transparent and efficient Dédé !!! it must work! I could do it in OS9
