You can find a relatively low-cost group of reformed army with two petrol engines of VW cox very easily convertible ... Some have run only a few tens of hours.

For natural gas and LPG (according to the American vendors of equipment) it is the same conversion with a setting of "richness" and above all a different stckage.

it all depends on what we call old

quite old there was no lead in gasoline so the valves had to be solid ... and in addition the compression rates were not too huge so no risk of overheating

the modern suspect it's 1970 1980 ... that's not what I call old

fortunately all the manufacturer has not made these poor savings in materials in the valves ... fortunately some have kept the maximum quality without relying on lead ... hence these engine list which support LPG

I had LPG installed in a car a long time ago, when it was simple

1 regulator giving zero pressure (exactly equal to atmospheric pressure

a venturi in the rubber hoses between carburetor and air filter

an adjustment valve between the regulator and the venturi

an electronic box to make more serious but not used for anything at all

this installation served me as a model for my small engine

I started by using a modified normal propane regulator to make a lower pressure: it works well for a while but the pulsations of the engine wear out too quickly the joints that there are in the regulator ... own regulator ... the same regulator turned on a large number of engine

at the time I was hoping to make and sell this kind of material ... I realized that the mess of safety standards was hellish for a small business

today I think more and more to put all the know-how on the internet so that all those who have means of reailsation benefit from it ... and I would only sell loose parts for those who do not want to make them

for the regulating tap between venturi and regulator it's simple: I turn the engine on petrol, gas regulating completely closed, I close the petrol tap, it empties the tank of the fuel and the engine starts to have missed: I open the gas so that it works better, and the more the carburetor empties the more you have to open the gas ... when the carburetor is completely empty the correct adjustment is found

then it starts easily with gas, without ever modifying the regulating valve

I put a button on the regulator to force the arrival before starting, and be sure that it starts the first time

Hello,

it is following the breakage of my 806 engine, after discussion with a Peugeot mechanic I just said that the 8 valves did not hold with LPG (I stupidly gave the info as much for months, because actually the cylinder head is dead so in fact I should have understood that the cylinder heads with 8 valves do not hold the shock).

thanks for the explanation this explains that.

Very very well the discussion on the diesel groups, it has been running around in my head for a while, so if I understood correctly you can't make a diesel with a gas only you must have diesel with gas?

I also saw a gasifier with a large mercedes truck engine of 200hp diesel transformed into petrol

spark plug instead of injectors

I do not know how it is done to reduce the compression ratio ... modification of the piston? or very thick cylinder head gasket


the advantage of a diesel is not to reduce the compression rate to that of a gasoline, but to keep a higher rate optimized for the gasifier

it is easier to reduce the compression of a diesel than to increase that of a gasoline

Hello ,

Until the soot, a small idea by metering a wedge between two cylinder head gasket there is undoubtedly means to modify the volume of combustion chamber for example.

So if I sum up, a chouilla:
the compression ratio of a diesel engine is too high suddenly the combustion, by injecting gas, would be too high, and therefore the engine would not run.
By modifying the volume of the chamber, the combustion point is modified, and by tuning this same volume for the gas flash point, the engine is tuned to the fuel.

Are the candles used throughout operation or just for starting?

As with diesel, there cannot be self-combustion due to the fact that the gas is made up of very small particles (that's why we inject the diesel at high pressure), or does it really need an ignition like for gasoline ??

in a diesel the diesel is injected at the right time: it burns when it is injected: it takes a compression rate higher than the minimum for it to work

with petrol or gasifier the fuel is mixed with air ... if the compression is sufficient to self-ignite, it will explode too soon and will overheat or even destroy the engine: a compression ratio lower than the limit which makes self ignition

it seems that diesel for co-combustion has a slightly reduced compression ratio: it still works in simple diesel but reduced efficiency ... but at least it supports gas without self ignition

we should not try co-combustion in a diesel with indirect injection ricardo comet which always has a compression ratio too strong

so the spark plugs are used throughout the operation, so you have to add the whole Ht system with the correct setting for it to work?
