Amazing observations - for me -:
- On my hay roundball laid flat on the ground for 1 month now I can see grass growing thick like a lawn.
- The largest branches of the pruned trees were cut to length of chimney and placed on the ground 15 days ago.
Under certain pieces and sawdust in contact with the ground I saw whitish veils which I took for cobwebs. On closer inspection, it is indeed the development of mushroom fibers.

1) I left balls lying around, I never saw that ...!
Weather ??? Hay ???
But keep watching! These are the seeds of the grasses that germinate. Will they be able to grow on hay ???? I think that once the energy of the seed "flares up", they will shrivel up ... To be checked.
2) Normal! Humid, wood, low temperatures: mushrooms go there! This is why we should not let the BRF drag too much! The "demantibulation" of lignin - and any reserves it contains on the outer part of the branches, alive. It left my Kiki !

Grass on bales: Without doubt the relatively high temperatures for the season - we still have 15 ° forecast today December 13 my daughter will have 4 ° in Nancy - are there for something ...
As for mushrooms, I never suspected such speed!

I confirm. On the east, white jellies - but white! - this morning. And sometimes temperatures that remain negative during the day ... For quite some time ...

ditto in Moselle, except no frost today, but like almost every day, fog, lots ...
in the vegetable garden, on the plot in question, the green manure is almost KO with nights at -5 °.
I have applied (real) BRF several times already, on several strips, but no trace of mushrooms yet. Probably because the BRF is on the meadow grass, so no contact with the ground ...

The fog caught up with us and indeed, it thaws ... with + 1,4 ° C at the probe!
1) What did you use as green manure?
2) The activity of mushrooms is very slowed down by these often negative temperatures! Even if it is not completely stopped ...
But also beware: sometimes when it comes to hyphae (filaments of fungi), this is invisible (about ten microns, or one hundredth of a mm) ... There is only when these hyphae are grouped in "mycelium ", grouping of hundreds or thousands of hyphae, that we will see something. So don't think that if you don't see anything, nothing happens.
You never see bacteria! And yet, a pile of mowed grass heats the next day! Proof that the activity is exploding!

is it not rather straw your boot? I have already seen shoots like this on straw at my father's house. Maybe even grains of wheat that germinate (whatever is very fine on your photo.)?

They sold it to me for hay! You also have the photos of the spreading above! The straw is much larger.

Re: Potager du lazy in western France Bretagne-Pays de la Loire
As indicated above: humidity, sufficient temperatures, it is normal that the seeds of the grasses, contained in mass in the hay, on the periphery in the light, germinate ...
To be confirmed later: in my opinion, they will not go far; the hay is not yet decomposed; they will not find enough to eat; so once their reserves are exhausted, they should die of starvation ... There, you have a production of "germinated seeds", as many do in their kitchen, with a germinator where they maintain humidity - sometimes on paper .
Keep us in touch !
