The plot of the family garden I covered it with a layer of weeds from my neighbors then a layer of almost dry grass recovered from the municipal mowing. Finally a layer of hay 400m2 gleaned eque I put on 75m2.
I hope it will not be too much. The basic support is sand, with a sort of clayey silt that is hard like stone when it is dry.

Clay is hard when it's dry! That's why we build with it.

This year (this evening again, a storm took a different direction), I was able to experience this. My water storage was very insufficient - and never refilled! The forest suffers, the trees lose leaves; branches dry out ... And the ground is hard.

I therefore became aware of the importance of having access to water to maintain sufficient humidity and the activity of soil organisms. My layer of hay was preserved this year, because the organisms were alive slowed down, form of resistance (spores), or in diapause (worms) ... Nothing works without water ... And that's good for that arid regions are "poor in biomass / biodiversity" ...

It is not for nothing that we talk about market gardening! I concentrate watering on the few vegetables that manage to survive in the persistent absence of rain ... I think I will soon produce naturally freeze-dried vegetables ... :(

Absolutely pathetic, the ground is so dry here too! I also understand how far I am from the necessary sprinkler installation compared to my surface. The 2 "cuvounettes" remain empty and I feel ridiculous with my 4 watering cans, filled when I can at the well. The next day, even at this time, the land is dry even though I have only selected a few plants to water. Here we are still around 30 during the day!

And I imagine what it would have been like with bare soil !?

It's crazy because exactly the opposite situation from that which we experienced the previous year here ...

It looks like the weather is showing improvement, right?

Oh why?
Many reasons :
the first I always read that it was necessary to water with rain or well water (!), that regular watering tap water is rather "harmful".

Then I am not at home and even if the owner offered to water me, I do not want to "abuse" too much ...

But the most important reason is the laziness and the delay in lighting: I believed during 3 weeks that the rain would arrive, as I believed during 3 weeks that these bugs would leave from them- same or would be puffed by predators or would not be dangerous for my vegetables. In addition, it would seem that I would have to leave the tap water aeration in basins for evaporation of chlorine ...

do not overdo it, the chlorine evaporates on its own and very quickly, so if you water with tap water there is no risk, we say that it is harmful because the tap water is very often hard, and so for potted plants, lime will build up drastically, and since "tropical" or "indoor" plants don't like it, we end up saying that tap water is bad for everything
