A priori it is for animal feed but the step towards humans is not great:

In the food industry, the projects selected by Bercy are particularly green. The government will thus help B&C Yes to create an industrial site in Pontchâteau (Pays-de-la-Loire) to manufacture vegan products imitating cold meats and meat. The Kokiriki range is made from raw materials 90% of French origin. A project which will make it possible to "structure the vegetable protein sector in France". To go even further in the agrifood transition, the government is counting on Innovafeed. VShis SME intends to build the largest insect production and processing site in the world, while France today imports more than 50% of the plant proteins needed for animal feed.

Except that we are talking about protein powder ... added to other products.

It has already been authorized in the Netherlands for a few years.

A "legend" has claimed for years that there are earthworms in the meat of macdo ...
Ok earthworms are not insects but that's great ...

In short you can go back to sleep ...

a protein powder does not exist. They are either of animal or plant origin, not by magic. Then it is this kind of "powder" which was used to feed the future mad cows. who knows tomorrow maybe that we will recover human corpses to make protein powders too!
A "legend" has claimed for years that there are earthworms in the meat of macdo ...

it's probably more than a legend. Minced meats come from offal good for the trash, where these earthworms "grow". No one would want to consume them if they weren't chopped.
In short you can go back to sleep ...
merci!

The race is on between insect protein specialists. Just one month after Ynsect's announcement of a record fundraising of 200 million euros, it is the turn of InnovaFeed, the other French nugget in the sector, to announce this Thursday a roundtable 140 million euros, half of which in equity, the balance in debt. This funding round, carried out with the Creadev and Temasek funds, its historical shareholders, but also with banking partners, brings the level of funding raised by the start-up to 200 million since its creation in 2016.

“The start-up of the Nesle site in the Somme and the signing of contracts with industrial players have confirmed the company's potential. This is why we have decided to reinvest in this project in order to deploy this technology in a global way ”, explains Jean-Baptiste Bachelerie, Deputy CEO of Creadev.

International flight

With this operation, InnovaFeed intends to deploy its model in France and internationally. Specializing in the black soldier fly, the group has also just concluded a partnership with the American giant ADM (Archer-Daniels-Midland Company) for the construction of a second factory, based in Decatur, Illinois. According to the group, its construction will start in 2021 and will produce 400.000 tonnes of nutrients, including 60.000 tonnes of insect protein per year. In the United States, InnovaFeed will in fact duplicate its business model consisting in leaning against a giant of the agro-industry to recover its waste (co-products) and unused energy.

In the Somme, this model of “industrial symbiosis” was devised with Tereos and Kogeban, Akuo Energy's wood biomass plant. It makes it possible to produce 15.000 tonnes of insect protein, but also to save 57.000 tonnes of CO2. “We are replicating our technology in the United States, where the site will be four times the size. ADM Decatur's corn-based co-products will be recycled locally to feed the insects thanks to infrastructures connected to the site. This production model will make it possible to use 27 MW of fatal energy, which has so far been lost, ”explains Clément Ray, co-founder of InnovaFeed.

Second site in Europe
With this transaction, the Frenchman intends to take a step ahead of his competitors in the protein market. The company has already concluded commercial partnerships with the international food players Cargill, Italpollina or Barentz for feeding pigs and poultry, for example. "Our analyzes convinced us that InnovaFeed offered the best product on the market in terms of performance and quality," said Hélène Ziv, director of risk management and procurement at Cargill.

In France, InnovaFeed has already set up a sustainable fish farming sector with Auchan. To consolidate its lead, the company should soon announce a second site in Europe, according to Clément Ray. With these upcoming site openings, the company could produce 600.000 tonnes of ingredients, including 100.000 tonnes of protein. Its turnover (not communicated) should then be around 300 million euros. In Nesle, the insect factory will employ 110 people.
