Hi Manitou,

this is true, but Salers is not the only one to retain milk in the absence of the calf.

It is the sign of affirmed maternal qualities and in general, the salers is raised "in a suckling system" or in a "mixed system", that is to say that the milk is intended exclusively or partially for the calf.

For those who love Ardennes horses, here is a small photo of Quenel de Maucourt and his filly Alizée du Viallard ... with Papa Matou de la Louche

I lose my Latin there?

by Pascal HA PHAM » 28/06/10, 10:23

Hello Raymond,

About horses I lose my Latin a little:
Why an Ardennes breed in Auvergne?
Are there purely Auvergne horse breeds ...

you know Raymond? ...
hey hey: there is no better than the Percheron to pull hard ... it is well known ...

Come on, I'll tease you a bit, but you have to untangle the skein in the midst of all these "horse" breeds ....

"à la vache" is not easy to understand everything about the life of animals!

A+

Hello Pascal,

O but that those are good questions ... You don't have the blinders :P

My cousin Joël was passionate about the Ardennes breed, it is true that these animals are superb.

But actually, there is a breed of Auvergne horses, it is believed that the origins date back to the Arab invasions where the mounts were domesticated and selected in 2 branches: one for war, the other for field work.

The Auvergne horse is very rustic, resistant, adapted to the mountain climate, but in pure strength, it is inferior to the Ardennes, or the must in this matter ... the percherons.

Here is a page dedicated to the Auvergne race for those who want to know more.

Come on Pascal, I give you the pole !

It all seems to me really nice

Salers not bad, right? :P

Hello Raymond

What beautiful photos: it's not just racehorses that are beautiful ...
relay / dotted questions, and to be diligent about this beautiful subject:

"Are draft horses still in use today?"

"and to what?"

Hi Pascal,

Draft horses ... I'll talk about it again. : Idea:

If not... Falco and Fiston calves greet Econologists well!

These photos remind me of an anecdote.

Many years ago, we were walking with our two children (prob. 4 and 6 years old, hardly more) in the countryside, on a path bordered by meadows. And one of them asks, "Mum, on the cows, the ear tags, is that the price?"
