Bravo for this transformation!
Also think of Terra Preta: before the conquistadors, the Amazon Indians fertilized the poor clay there with ... CHARCOAL !!! Measured result: 890% more productivity.
In fact, we don't really know how it works; but, unlike slash-and-burn cultivation (which requires moving every 2 years and ultimately depletes the soil), it seems that charcoal promotes the development of a bacteria, which makes the soil black and fixes the nutrients . This bacterium must be aerobic (needs air) because the earth blackens on 70cm of maximum thickness. But if you remove 50cm to put it elsewhere, in 10 years the 70cm layer has been restored.
I tried: barbecue charcoal crushed into powder, mixed with fine earth to sow parsley about 3cm thick. The parsley was beautiful, did not freeze, but ... was it terra preta? I forgot to make a witness tape with nothing. But 2 years later, my wife wants to plant tulips in this place: the earth is black and apparently "rich" over more than 15cm deep! So the process also works in France. A group of farmers and the agricultural high school will launch the experiment on a poor plot. To be continued. See : http://www.loindevant.be/modules.php?na ... le&sid=198
To follow also the experience of Causses, where a farmer irrigates his desert paecelles with ... fresh wood chips! It lasts a year and a half and it replaces watering.
Good luck, good research.

Interesting the blow of charcoal, it must be similar to the surroundings of volcanoes deemed very fertile ...

For the culture under wood shavings, or other carpet intended to allow the rains to irrigate while retaining and preserving the humidity of the humus, the choice of material is wide.

We can also cite the technique of direct sowing.
For example on a wheat field, we harvest only the ears, we pass the roller over the straw, we sow beans (for example) the beans will grow without inputs, raise the nitrogen just below the surface, harvest the beans , leave their stubble for the winter which will maintain bio diversity, humidity and prevent soil leaching.
Finally:
- We go from 150L of diesel consumed per hectare to 15L !
- We restore bio diversity 90% is concentrated in the first 10 cm of the soil.
- We can make 3 harvests per year without inputs.
- We improve performance ...

The Latin American countries which were the first to "try GMOs" lost 10% of yield per year = 50% less yield after 4 to 5 years. they "stopped GMOs" to set up these much more profitable AND ecological (econological) techniques. : Cheesy:

GMO vendors therefore want to give us their junk before we learn that. : Evil:

Wood chips

by To do » 26/07/06, 10:07

Be careful, this is not a "mulch", covering of wood chips, but rather to mix the chips of fresh wood chips (with a grinder for example) to the ground. It seems that these chips act as a sponge, retaining water and gradually releasing it. Does not work with dry wood.

insects with glasses of earth are responsible for the result, vermin is eliminated. Like listeria which is the most dangerous in pasteurized products.
