WEEE: Toxic-Tech report and ranking companies

by kryxx » 29/11/07, 10:03

Hello,
to follow up on the post https://www.econologie.com/forums/greenpeace ... t3796.html on the environment, greenpeace has released its 6th report for a "greener" electronics industry.

Until now, game consoles as well as TVs were not included in the ranking. But when we know the boom of one and the plasma and LCD of the other, it would have been incongruous not to include them. So we see the arrival of "new companies" and what companies! One may even wonder why not have included them earlier. So let's mention Nintendo, Microsoft, Philips and sharp.

And this new ranking policy couldn't have been worse for Nintendo. For its entry, the Japanese firm is assigned a 0 pointed, 0 which had never been given since the creation of this guide !!! While so far the ratings have been awarded based on what the companies let out, this time and despite Nintendo's resistance, it seems from Iza Kruszewska of greenpeace, that tests are being carried out. And Nokia, formerly the report's big winner, is relegated to 9th position.

A good point, however, and certainly that ROhS is not unrelated to it, the general trend is rather positive. But time is running out.

Hi and welcome back on forums.

Did you manage to find the full report? On the Greenpeace site I only found the ranking for September 2007 ... http://www.greenpeace.org/france/campai ... toxic-tech

Being the "happy" processor of a Wii I would like to know more about the non respect of the environment on the part of Nitendo ...

By the way this slideshow is breathtaking (although already known):

Thank you :) Take a look!

Fortunately I am recharging the batteries with the batboostor on the wii because it must be the most polluting console at this level!

: Lol: : Lol: : Lol: : Lol: if it's not advertising!
short yes it is possible, it is the only one to use wireless. on the other hand I would be curious to see a test because on the other hand it is the one that has the poorest graphics engine and processor so it is not on

Ben koi jpe not advertise our shop on our own site?

Otherwise I was talking about batteries, not power consumption.

I think the AC adapter is 53W which is very reasonable (and probably bcp less than other consoles released at the same time PS3 or Xbox 360 style).

ps: I think the PS3 also has a wireless controller ...

well you have to recharge them, right?

yes but although not being at all electronician, it does not consume more battery when it is not facing the module? and the wii ca must be radio while the PS3 is IR right?

Bonjour à tous

On the link:

http://www.greenpeace.org/france/campai ... toxic-tech

"Did you know ?
* - The average lifespan of computers has dropped in developed countries, from six years in 1997 to just two years in 2005. "

I don't know where they come from the figure of 2 years but it smacks of mercantile manipulation and does not correspond at all to all that I have been able to see in my professional and particular entourage. All that I could observe resembled the result of the survey done on econology.

www.econologie.com/forums/deee-how- much-times-guard-vous-your-pc-t2590-20.html

I hope that the rest of the environmental toxicity assessment is not piped .... : Mrgreen:

personally it does not surprise me having worked in a box that connected to PCs. These regularly changed their pc every 2 or 3 years. Maintyenant it is rather large boxes by artisans. know that taxes allowed 3 years to amortize a pc but that a 2-year leeway is granted. and prso it's a bit ca too : Cheesy:

Well, it's clear that it's not the lifespan Greenpeace wants to talk about but the duration before CHANGE.

It's not really the same but 2 years is still not much, I have known guys who changed every 6 months to be at the "top" ...

Otherwise fiscally a pc is amortized over 3 years ... which does not mean that it should be thrown away after 3 years but that it is no longer taken into account in the balance sheet and therefore that it is no longer worth anything for the company...so from this point of view as much change it...

Yes, corporate taxation is quite a way to FORCE consumption!

By cons I do not know if the taxation has evolved on this side there since 97 ... I guess not ...
