You forget a detail for tractors ...
Just hang up a pole mounted on the tractor an electrical wire that is connected to a socket installed at the entrance of the field ... This will limit some work, but for the plowing who is precisely energy-intensive, it should do it. It does not matter if the wire sweeps the earth. ( : Cheesy: )

In combination with the weight of a big battery with a powerful electric motor it is ideal for grip, so good for plowing.

One detail that may be of interest to the electric tractor is the questioning of current agricultural methods where we dig deep soils and then saturate them with fertilizers, herbicides and other pesticides.

Many farmers seem to return to the old energy-consuming habits to have a more discreet and respectful action of the land, certainly less productive in terms of quantity but more qualitative. Is not that right?
If the agriculture of tomorrow changes paradigm, the electric tractor will find its place.

That said, the aeronautics works on the electric plane of tomorrow, and the constraints in terms of power are all as important as in agriculture. Wait and see.

We totally agree. I noted that the models presented were one a "tractor" from Espaces Verts and the other, perhaps a vineyard (???).

The weight, in fact, would not be a problem, since we weigh the tractors (especially at the front).

It's the cost!

Yes. Absolutely. But the fact remains that for the moment, those who have completely changed paradigm are very rare. Even the machines of "strip tilling" (sowing on a narrow strip not worked, without plowing) are enormous!

Ditto for aviation, except that there, the promoters are much more cautious. We talk about research, horizon 2030, etc ... For hybrids. Nobody, not even at Airbus, suggests commercial electric aircraft.

For me, all of this is comm, getting people to talk about their brand, occupying the media space before the competitor does it ... If I was young, I would open a file on my computer to classify all the "promising techniques", all the "announcements" ... In 30 years I would be releasing a book - that would be a joke!

I am very skeptical about hybrid planes; overconsumption assured to carry the mass of the batteries ... or so it really needs a very slight hybridization. it smells like a gadget ...

for tractors, no way to plow with electricity ... or even mow, roundballer ... there is no line + counter 200 kW three-phase in each field ... :P

But there are still builders who have just released electric tractors!
If the concept does not have a near profitability, and I imagine that engineers and design offices have studied on the subject, I do not understand why these ads!

(That said, like the electrical road of our former environment minister Ségolène, there may be an explanation of simple subsidies to capture for such projects without future ...)

Peugeot prepares for the rise of electric cars

Alain Guillemoles, the 04 / 12 / 2017

The PSA Group is partnering with a Japanese manufacturer to become the 1 number of the production of electric motors for the automobile. By 2030, half of all vehicles sold worldwide are expected to be hybrid or electric.

At a time when all major manufacturers are heading for the electric car, PSA is positioning itself to become an engine manufacturer for its own needs, but also to serve the entire industry. The French group has indeed announced the 4 December an alliance with the Japanese Nidec, the world leader in the sector - he manufactured more than 6 billion electric motors last year - to set up a joint venture. PSA and Nidec will design together, then manufacture and sell motors for electric cars.

It will be both small traction motors for light hybrid vehicles, or larger, for 100% electric vehicles. "By 2023, 80% of our models will be available in electrified version," said Patrice Lucas, vice president of PSA. These engines are likely to go on vehicles Peugeot, Citroën, DS, Opel or Vauxhall, all brands of the group.

On the horizon 2022

The Nidec and PSA teams will work together in a research and development center based in Poissy, within the PSA plant, to develop this new range of engines. These will be produced in Tremery, Moselle, where PSA already has a thermal engine plant.

The joint venture should see the start of 2018 and the engines be mounted on vehicles from 2022. PSA and Nidec will invest together 220 million euros and create a hundred jobs of engineers, then 400 for the production line. But difficult to say if it is about net creations, or transfers of posts.

Both companies are planning a volume of 900 000 engines to be produced in 2022 for PSA's needs. But their ambition is not limited to that. PSA and Nidec also want to supply engines to other manufacturers, and "a world champion in the production of traction motors for the automotive industry".

Nidec, a global giant

While the market has set the course for the 100 million vehicles produced annually in the world, it is estimated that by 2030, nearly one vehicle sold in two should be either hybrid or 100% electric. Fifty million engines will be needed at this time, a market valued at 45 billion euros per year. By pooling the skills of a major car manufacturer and a specialist in electric motors, the Nidec-PSA alliance hopes to produce a significant share.

Nidec is already a global giant that employs more than 100 000 employees to manufacture all kinds of engines of all sizes. The Japanese group is present in the automobile through power steering engines or oil pumps. Last February, Nidec acquired Leroy-Somer, the largest French manufacturer of electric motors headquartered in Angoulême, which mainly makes elevator motors and also builds the traction engines for Bluecar Bolloré.

But by embarking on production for the automobile, Leroy-Somer will have to rethink its products so that they become more powerful and cheaper. And this is the first goal of this alliance, which can rely on the captive market of PSA to get started with the assurance of being able to manufacture, from the outset, large volumes.

electric cables in the fields to plow, it was even easier! plow pulled by steel cable by a winch ... I saw it in the books of the time of the steam ... the steam engines were too heavy and too little power to advance in a field by pulling a plow So we put 2 locomobile at the 2 end of the field with winch pulling the plow, while one of the locomobile pulls with his winch, the other moves to shoot the next row ... and when the cart reaches the end and put his share in the other direction a whistle gives the signal to start the winch of the other locomobile

I saw it in the books, then I saw it in real life at the feast of the Saint strong fort on the nee ... at the time when this festival brought very conservative English with their steam equipment ... be in the middle of the field and see their big plow pass without any noise other than the friction of the plow on the ground, it's impressive

this cable system allowed to plow with a much better mechanical performance than the current tractor! the power of the steam engine being low it was necessary to optimize the use ... now the diesel engines are so powerful that no matter if it is wasted

finally it does not change the other problem that deep plowing is not the only solution ... but when we want to avoid plowing we put glyphosate

It's been a while since it was announced, I had posted the top:

GB: London's black cabs go all-electric

By AFP the 05.12.2017

The first electrically powered black taxis began on Tuesday to walk the streets of London, with a new, more massive look, as part of a new regulation aimed at reducing pollution in the British capital.

These electric "black cabs" replace diesel vehicles at the end of the regulations requiring that any new taxi driving in London from 2018 onwards emits very low amounts of polluting gases.

Some 9.000 of them must be deployed by 2021, about half of the current fleet.

Called TX eCity, "this vehicle is completely new and offers a much better experience for the driver and passengers", assured AFP Chris Gubbey, director of the London Electric Vehicle Company (formerly London Taxi Company), its manufacturer. "It is very quiet and the handling is much better," he added.

Placed in 2013 under administration, the manufacturer of the only vehicle in the world built to serve as a taxi had been bought by the Chinese car manufacturer Geely, owner of Volvo.

Taxis have been built for almost 70 years in Coventry, in central England.

- Ten times less CO2 -

The new models are larger and can carry up to six passengers under a transparent roof. They are equipped with wireless internet (wi-fi), USB chargers, a socket and a contactless bank card reader at the back.

"The ride quality is amazing. Customers will love it," said Peter Powell, 61, a taxi driver who has been testing new vehicles for two months. He acknowledges, however, that "many old-timers do not like change", particularly concerned about insufficient number of charging stations.

The TX eCity costs 55.000 pounds (about 62.000 euros), 10.000 pounds more than the latest diesel version (TX4). But its manufacturer estimates that drivers can save 100 pounds (114 euros) a week in fuel.

It also emits ten times less CO2 than TX4 and their nitrous oxide emissions are close to zero.

London taxi drivers travel an average of 120 miles (193 kilometers) a day, including trips to and from their homes.

The new electric taxis can run 80 miles (129 kilometers) thanks to their electric motor, but also have a reserve electric generator (powered by a gasoline engine) allowing them to travel up to 377 miles (607 kilometers).
