portable and mobile risks: a new call to danger

Unread Messageby Christophe » 15/06/08, 19:54

This time it is not tree huggers (supposedly paranoid) who say it but the major media and scientists:

MOBILE TELEPHONY

Scientists warn against the dangers of cell
NOUVELOBS.COM | 15.06.2008 | 18: 51

According to David Servan-Schreiber and twenty scientists, the mobile phone could promote "the development of cancer in case of long term exposure." They list ten recommendations to mitigate risks and formally advise against the use of mobile for less than 12 years.

Twenty international scientists launched Sunday 15 June an appeal against the health hazards posed by cell phone.
The appeal, published in Le Journal du Dimanche, coordinated by David Servan-Schreiber, Professor of Psychiatry at the University of Pittsburgh and known for the success of his book "Healing" (2003). The signatory list ten key recommendations:

- Do not allow children under 12 years to use a cell phone except in an emergency,
- Keep the phone more than a meter body when communicating using the speaker mode or a headset or a headset,
- Minimize the possibility of carrying a mobile phone itself, even in sleep,
- At the mobile phone port on itself, ensure that the face "keyboard" is directed towards the body,
- Rather communicate by SMS, as it limits the duration of exposure and the proximity to the device,
- Stay more than one meter from a person calling and avoid using his laptop on the subway, train or bus, not passively expose others,
- Only use the mobile phone to establish contact or for short conversations,
- change regularly during a conversation and wait for the correspondent to pick up before placing the handset on the ear,
- Avoid using the laptop when the signal strength is low,
- Choose a device with the specific absorption rate as low as possible.

Such as asbestos and tobacco

According to the JDD, "the scientists agree on two things: there is no formal proof of the harmfulness of the notebook, but there is a risk that it promotes the development of cancer in case of long-term exposure ".
"We are now in the same position it was fifty years ago with asbestos and tobacco. Either we do nothing, and we accept the risk, or we admit that there is a set of arguments worrying scientists, "explains Thierry Bouillet, oncologist at the Avicenne hospital in Bobigny and signatory of the call.
Other key signatories include Dr. Bernard Asselain, head of the biostatistics department of cancer at the Institut Curie, Professor Franco Berrino, director of the department of preventive medicine and predictive of the Milan National Cancer Institute, Dr. Thierry Bouillet, oncologist and director of the Institute of radiotherapy hospital Avicenne in Bobigny, Jacques Marilleau, engineer, former physicist at the Commissariat for Atomic energy and the CNRS in Orsay, or Joël de Rosnay, PhD.

Here, the information is relayed this time (an indirect effect of the video Popcorn? :D):

a) Liberation:

Laptops: oncologists sound the alarm
F.Ta.

The 40 million French - and 2 billion people in the world - using a mobile phone are they in danger? According twenty oncologists, who yesterday launched an appeal in the Sunday newspaper, it is urgent to adopt certain rules of prudence in the use of mobile. Led by the very media David Servan-Schreiber, Professor of Psychiatry and bestselling author, these doctors believe that the scientific confusion surrounding the use of mobile phones should not stop responding. "We are now in the same position it was fifty years ago with asbestos and tobacco. Either we do nothing, and we accept the risk, or we admit that there is a worrying scientific arguments beam, "explains Thierry Bouillet, cancer specialist at the Avicenna Hospital in Bobigny and signatory of the call.

For years studies have followed one another, but without issuing a definitive diagnosis. The scientific community is eagerly awaiting the conclusion, probably towards the end of the year, of Interphone, the first epidemiological study conducted since 1999 on a large scale in thirteen countries. Several of these countries, including France, have already published partial results, some of which are worrying, but Interphone officials frequently point out that only the final data will conclude whether or not the danger of the laptop. Recently a Swedish study concluded that after ten years of use of the mobile phone, the risk of developing a glioma, the most malignant form of brain cancer, was multiplied by 2,5.

In France, the Ministry of Health, for the time, described the risks of "low". Oncologists at the origin of the call yesterday especially recommend parents to prohibit children under 12 years the use of mobile phones, to avoid having constantly on a phone itself, not keep it close to his body at night to emphasize the headset or sending SMS, to stay at least one meter from someone who telephone, limit its use when the network is low or cars, trains, metro and bus.

b) West France:

Laptops: doctors call for caution

They argue the precautionary principle. As long as one is not certain that the electromagnetic radiation of these phones have no effect.
Twenty scientists, mainly oncologists, call for caution on the use of mobile phones. "We are in the same situation as fifty years ago for asbestos and tobacco, explains Thierry Bouillet, oncologist at Avicenne Hospital in Bobigny and signatory of the call. Either one does nothing, and one accepts a risk, or one admits that there is a bundle of alarming scientific arguments. "

No evidence

For psychiatry professor David Servan-Schreiber, the origin of the text, must "absolutely" take precautions. "Even without definitive proof, we must explain to people that the use of mobile is probably not trivial and there are proven ways to protect themselves. "

Published in the Journal Sunday yesterday, this call sets out ten simple rules to reduce the risks related to exposure to electromagnetic fields (1). Example: prohibit the use of laptops to children under 12 years, except in emergencies; "Avoid wearing a phone on you, even in sleep"; "Communicate by SMS rather than by telephone."

One can imagine that the powerful mobile operators will not be slow to scream. For the Ministry of Health, there is no scientific evidence today to show that the use of mobile phones presents a "significant risk" to health, whether for adults or children.

However, several recent studies highlight the possibility of a risk "low" health effect associated with intensive use and long lasting mobile. An international study of large-scale, conducted in thirteen countries under the auspices of the World Health Organization (WHO), is ongoing. Only partial results have been published to date.

C) Challenges, blog

Mobile: just advocacy David Servan-Schreiber

Of course, David Servan-Schreiber is not an expert on mobile phones, is a trader first. The professor of psychiatry became a professional anti-stress remedies, antidéprime, many anticancer ... mirage behind his well-honed marketing discourse. But his call for vigilance in the use of mobile seems very sensible.

Much controversy over the use of Wifi, born of discomfort Parisian librarians me seemed farfetched, as doubts about the mobile seem well founded. The advice David Servan-Schreiber gives on its website seem sensible. Maintain, and hold, on his head or in a jacket pocket, a few millimeters of skin, a device emitting waves and causing overheating ... Of course caution is advised.

Without diving into paranoia, one can reasonably argue that all studies on the effects of mobile were not conducted over a long enough period so that we can spread their risks. All over the world, independent research teams pursuing these tests and collect data. I had the opportunity to speak with some of them in a recent survey published in Challenges. And the truth, but frustrating obvious today is that we know nothing.

Are we waiting to see appear shortly "independent" studies (funded by operators and mobile phone manufacturers) saying the exact opposite : Evil:

Ben you laugh but there are therapies electromagnetic waves ...
Russian specialists were the issue some time ago ...

There are also microwave weapons developed by the USA (use: war or riots)

the problem now that even if we prove that it is harmful to the use of mobile health is already well established in populations, people will probably live without.

when a portable and non mobile areas in public places :D

Christophe thank you for those links.

Pout...

I noticed in my case that after 10 min discussion, my ear is still warm. : Cheesy:

It's funny you tell me, but it shows that the radiation heats. Nothing more logical because it is the frequency 900 MHz, especially 1800 MHz.

You should know that the best fréqeunce to heat water that is micro wave 2400 Mhz, or even that of WiFi. The ear is composed 75% water, QED.

To this is added the thermal conduction from the battery to the ear.

Here here ... that said, I only fits moderately paranoid and the precautionary principle.

People who get naked buttocks and back all summer on the beaches run 100 times greater risk of skin cancer than brain cancer with their laptop.

And I think that use of less than an hour a day at regular intervals causes no risk for an adult, because overheating remains local and penetrates very little the cortex.

For small children, by cons, I proscrirais use because the interest call for them is null and best left alone their young developing neurons.

Nonetheless, overheating is very low ... following a small stammers CNRS

Sustained sporting effort more increases the temperature in the body.

Stay tuned though. : Idea:
