If you want my little experience: what I like is bioclimatic design, and it has nothing to do with my initial training (general mechanics oriented design). When I looked for it, I sent my CV without experience or the right diplomas. I almost never had answers and when I did, they were negative and very dry.
Then one day I said to myself that I had to show them what I can do. So I made the plans for 3 bioclimatic houses and the thermal studies that go with them, I made a nice very educational file which showed that I knew what we were talking about.
I sent this file with my CV, I always received a response, even if negative it was always accompanied by an encouraging word.
Then I managed to get an interview, which went well because I had the skills and I got the job.
