Hello,
as in energy, the best waste is that which is not produced.
The origin of Zero Waste is the book by Béa Johnson (who was inspired by No Impact Man), a French woman living in San Francisco.
She produces 1 kg of non-recyclable waste per year with her husband and two children.
Even if it may seem extreme, there is much to learn to reduce waste and live better.
his 5 R rule is inspired, among other things, by voluntary simplicity:
1 - Refuse (what we don't need)
2 - Reduce (what we need and cannot refuse)
3 - Reuse (what we consume and cannot refuse or reduce)
4 - Recycle (what you cannot refuse, reduce, or reuse)
5 - Compost (the rest) (Rot in English)
What I'm doing at the moment:
1) say "no thank you" to all the filth we can give you (pen, cheap Chinese toy, pub etc ...)
2) give or sell what I don't need.
Buy bulk as much as possible in my own containers, Bio-Planet in Belgium allows you to buy meat, vegan and cheese in its own containers. A nearby organic store will soon have pasta, rice, dried fruit, oil, etc.
And I buy my organic vegetables from the producer.
4) I go to the Repair café twice a year to re-stitch or repair damaged things.
5) compost (I have a garden), and put in the compostable collection diapers (organic), meat, cheese etc which attract rats.
Making room allows for less storage. Making less waste saves time, since we no longer have to manage it: sorting, putting the trash, going to the container park, etc.
As soon as possible, I will try to make some products myself, like ash and water, to make potash, which will allow me to clean the glass of my stove, rather than a corrosive product bought. I would like to test the white clay toothpaste and the dishwasher product.
I will also see to register for an SEL.
does that inspire you?
