Nuclear technologies in food and agriculture:

How far will we accept to go?

*******************

Conference and press point in Paris, Thursday, November 26, 2009 (15 p.m.)

Press release - Paris, October 27, 2009

French collective against food irradiation

Food irradiation - officially called “ionization” - is a nuclear technology used by the food industry, often presented as less harmful than other modes of preservation or decontamination. However, there are health, environmental and social risks that official health advice does not take into account. The regulations are ambiguous and disparate from one geographical area to another in the world. In France, controls are rare or almost non-existent. The volumes of irradiated products actually marketed - and consumed - are largely unknown.
In reality, the official opinions are based on work within the UN (United Nations) under the influence of the IAEA (International Atomic Energy Agency) under an agreement between the WHO ( World Health Organization) and the IAEA, which de facto renders the latter judge and party to this case.

In addition, it is under a similar agreement between the FAO (Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations) and the IAEA that technologies have been developed which encourage the mutation of seeds by irradiation, in parallel with conducting genetic manipulation research introducing foreign gene sequences (GMOs).

As with food irradiation, the techniques of mutation by irradiation produce biological effects whose safety for food is not clearly demonstrated. They also represent environmental and social risks.

The French Collective Against Food Irradiation * invites you to a conference and press point to expose the issues and debate these questions, with the participation of:

- Roland Desbordes, physicist and president of CRIIRAD,
- Thierry Folliard, engineer, naturopath and co-host of the French collective against food irradiation (Action Consumption)
- Guy Kastler, spokesperson for Nature et Progrès
- Hervé Le Meur, president of GMO Dangers

Please confirm your presence by email to info@irradiation-foods.org or by phone at the 01 48 05 86 81.

another pact between the WHO and the IAEA (according to the 1959 charter, or even the latest publications which say that man now has a radio nuclide level in the blood, by observation ...).

to better impose a standard that is respectable by the countries that have adopted it (nuclear irradiation) under the principle of "food safety" (which no doubt also includes GMOs), food is passed through a zero irradiation barrier , beta and / or gamma rays this time, to eliminate germs viruses etc ...
again nobody knows what this technology does in the long term, apparently it kills vitamins and would cause mutations?
this barrier principle is used to pass a lot of food in ports, etc ... exotic products, bottled water (potable, for food security like the chlorine level in drinking water plan vigipirate at the highest level, .. .) so to protect us we are poisoned! paradox ...

Ah, progress is beautiful!

what are you eating tonight?

Hello everyone!

Here is some information on irradiated foods.

1. diary

The next conferences:

- Saturday November 14 at 11:30 am, Paris, Parc Floral de Vincennes, on the occasion of the Marjolaine trade fair, conference "Irradiated foods", with Thierry Folliard from Action Consommation and Pierre Ferrandon, CRIIRAD, members of the French collective against irradiation food.

- Thursday November 26 at 15:2 p.m., Paris, City Hall of the XNUMXnd, conference - press point "Nuclear technologies in food and agriculture: How far will we agree to go?", With Roland Desbordes, physicist and president of the CRIIRAD, Thierry Folliard, engineer, naturopath and co-host of the French collective against food irradiation (Action Consumption), Guy Kastler, spokesperson for Nature et Progrès and Hervé Le Meur, president of GMO Dangers.

- Friday December 4 at 20:30 pm, Angoûlème, village hall of Puymoyen, conference - debate "Irradiated and ionized foods, a technology for the benefit of whom? Risks and precautions", animation by Thierry Folliard, engineer and naturopath. Event organized by the local association Marchez bio, information on 05 45 61 32 96.

2. Information

"Cats can't stand irradiated food."

In November 2008, the company “Champion Petfoods Ltd” recalled animal feed products sold under the brand “ORIJEN” marketed in Australia. As appears from the document published by the company on this subject ("Orijen cat food, summary of actions in Australia", 03/12/2008), this withdrawal followed the investigation of the group of Australian veterinarians responsible for inspections. The latter had in fact observed neurological disorders in cats having been fed with ORIJEN products. The food had been prepared with fresh products processed at a relatively low temperature (90 ° C) and irradiated at high doses (60 kGy).

These facts led the Australian government to cancel the irradiation obligation which it had decreed more than ten years ago for this type of products (cf. article "Cat-food irradiation banned as pet theory proved", The Sidney Morning Herald, 30/05/2009).

NB: This reinforces the concerns of the French Collective against food irradiation with regard to current regulations and practices within the European Union. On the one hand, the regulations on irradiation do not take animal feed into account, which is therefore not subject to the labeling obligation. On the other hand, these neurological effects on the cat of the consumption of irradiated food can only call for the greatest caution regarding the irradiation of food. We will remain attentive to the results of the ongoing research by EFSA (European Food Safety Authority) and their opinions on food irradiation.
