hi chatelot16
Weighing should be enough for our particular case
1L of pure alcohol 789g = 100 °
1L distilled water 1000g = 0 °
Part of the methanol comes from the ligneous fermentation
- filter, pass the pout to the centrifuge

to weigh a precise volume is a solution: to weigh a filled bottle on the edge ... but it is precise only for a big volume ... if one weighs a bottle too small, even with a rather precise scale, one is pecked by the drops on the outside of the bottle that add weight: we must all wipe at each weighing
to measure the archimede force of a flowing float is much more practical
it is only when we measure the weight of the float out of the liquid that we must dry it properly, but we do it only once, then we trample it in the liquid to measure without wasting time

I saw on an old catalog of laboratory equipment that the possession of a still was prohibited only beyond a certain capacity of the balon: so a small still for analysis of various products is not prohibited!
it is not only drinkable alcohol: a still is useful to purify the products of wood pyrolysis, to make methanol and acetone fuel ... since the pyrolysis by-products of wood are almost impossible to completely remove there is no longer any hope of making drinkable alcohol in the same still so you can no longer be accused of making drinkable alcohol

I urge you to study the question by browsing the net.
Putting an alcoholic liquid in a pressure cooker without considering the possibility of modifying it seems to me the best way to go on TV or on youtube in the Regis series "s improvises distilateur".
A bit like Martine but more funny.
I do not want to encourage in this company, if you get caught it will be your party.

To be contret, in Belgium. The sale, purchase, possession and use of a still, whatever the use, is subject to declaration.
For the rest, consult the excise duties. It is not contrary.
I plan to create a small distillery. However, being financially limited I have to buy a used still .C is that it gets tough, there is none in Belgium and buy one in France proves great, mega complicates. And because of French laws. I believe they have not planned that a foreigner can buy a used still in less than 2 months. I say 2 months, but in fact it is more. This is 2 months that I wait for a paper to be able to bring back a still (used) that has been sold to another since ... 2 months. The simplest would be to go and get one without collar and then to make a collar of swan here.
In short it is not win.
Otherwise, it seems that Switzerland is fine.
As for scare. This is not my wish. On the other hand, one must be aware of the consequences of what one does. Distilling anyhow without particular knowledge can lead to serious disappointments. Like everything else, there are companies that we do not improvise without a minimum of knowledge.
If I warn about the law, it is good to know the price when it is contravened. After all, it is as for everything, everyone is free to do as he hears. You must be ready to assume if it wedges.

Re: How to make a still? Plans and tips
Good morning all. I just registered at the moment on this forum that I just discovered. In seeking information on the construction of a still I was directed on this page.
I am planning to build a model Scottish still (in actual size, I would have been forced to sell my house to buy copper ) I put in PJ the plan of my project, the ribs are in millimeters and the tank will hardly contain more than one liter. You will understand, the purpose of this still will not be to produce hooch. However, from a purely modelist point of view, I would like it to work like a real one. I also put a picture taken on the net representing the still that I inspired to make my plan. I watch the GIF animation at the beginning of this thread and that leads me to ask two questions:
- Will the condenser shown on the GIF be compatible with my project?
- Is the device at the top of the still called cooling valve essential and must be added to my plan (I would prefer to avoid for the sake of respecting fidelity to the model).
Thank you for enlightening my lantern.
